Basement Waterproofing
You’ve done your research and narrowed down your choices. Now, it’s time to hire a contractor for basement waterproofing. By this time, you already know that not all contractors are the same. The problem is how to know which one you should choose. The following are some questions that you should ask the contractors you’re considering before you make a choice:
- Has a system you’ve installed ever failed?
This is a question that tests the honesty of the contractor you’re interested in hiring. A professional contractor who has been in the business for years will have experienced some sort of failure along the road. They will not be afraid to let you know about it. They should also let you know what they did to address the problem. This shows a high level of professionalism and honesty.
- Do you have a warranty? If so, what does it cover?
Basement waterproofing isn’t cheap. You will therefore want to know that your investment is safe by finding out if the contractor offers a warranty for their work. Don’t just accept a yes. A good contractor should explain exactly what the warranty covers and for how long the warranty is valid. They should also let you know how to avoid forfeiting your warranty.
Should the system fail, the warranty should ensure that you’re covered. Be diligent in finding out what the contractor will do in such an instance.
- I only have a small issue, why do you want to install an entire system?
If you have a poured concrete basement, it is possible to get away with only addressing a single crack in the foundation wall. However, if your foundation walls are made from block, then you will have to address the entire wall when dealing with a problem. A professional contractor will most likely advise you to install an entire system to prevent further problems and arrest issues in their early stages.
- Do you have references that I can call?
Don’t take a risk with your foundation. It’s important to ensure that the person working on it is a skilled and experienced professional. You can do this by checking their references.
Don’t rely on emails. Pick up the phone and call the references. This will give you a clear picture of the contractor’s work.
Do your research to ensure that you get the best possible services. It will be worth the time you spend on it.
John Fahmy, President of Everdry of North Georgia / Atlanta region started at Everdry’s corporate headquarters (Ohio State Waterproofing) in 1991 as a part time customer service rep.
While working part time, John pursued his Bachelors degree in Marketing and Business Management at Cleveland State University. It was John’s mission to become the best in this industry after seeing his grandparents get scammed by a fly by night waterproofing contractor, and lose lots of money, that was not there anymore when they needed service. After only one year, John was promoted to Customer Service Manager.
After a total of 8 years in the Customer Service Department, John branched out, holding his Customer Service Manager position, while taking on new responsibilities as Assistant Marketing Director and becoming an EZ Breathe Sales rep.
In 2003, John was named Director of Shows, a job that gave him the opportunity to work directly with all of the national Everdry franchise locations nationwide, providing each office with support for their marketing efforts at trade shows.
In 2004, after 13 years with the company, John and his wife Connie took on a new challenge and took over the North Georgia / Atlanta Everdry franchise. Our goal is to provide a healthy and safe living environment in homes for the families in the North Georgia / Atlanta region.
